Measurement Specialist (MCosmos CMM Programmer)

Mitutoyo’s Measurement Services Department is the UK leader in Contract inspection and CMM Programming with both UK and Global customers. Due to continued growth we are seeking an experienced Metrologist to work at either our Halifax, Coventry or Andover site.  

 

 

Responsibilities: 

 

The Measurement Specialist will primarily create MCosmos CMM programs to inspect customer parts on dedicated inspection equipment in Mitutoyo facilities. They will also need to install these programs at customer sites throughout the UK and Ireland. There will also be a need to use and program other Mitutoyo inspection equipment as required.  

  • Understanding and interpreting customer requirements and drawings. 

  • Good general manufacturing and mechanical understanding and knowledge.  

  • Visiting customer sites and operating in a customer facing role. 

  • Estimating expected duration of work for quoting purposes. 

  • Interpretation and manipulation of customer CAD models. 

  • Interpretation of drawings in relation to international drawing standards.

  • The development of measurement programs and inspection strategies.  

  • Good general mechanical understanding and knowledge. 

 

Key requirements: 

  • Understand the Principles of Metrology to expert level, including knowledge of engineering drawings, geometric tolerancing, standards and CAD systems. 

  • Undertake additional duties as and when required, as requested by line manager.  

  • Utilise company I.T. systems and software. 

  • Provide customer technical support as required. 

  • Actively promote and comply with company Health and Safety policy. 

  • Develop technical skills as required to improve range, flexibility and effectiveness of duties performed. 

  • Work independently on own initiative taking responsibility for work. 

  • Maintain records of work carried out. 

  • Complete measurement of customer programming and/or measuring requirements utilising Mitutoyo’s range of dimensional measurement equipment including coordinate measuring machines (CMM’s), Form measurement instruments (FMI) and Vision measurement machines (VMM’s). 

  • Assist with the preparation of quotations. 

  • Liaise with clients and potential clients to evaluate needs and establish requirements. 

  • Represent the Company in a professional manner. 

 

Desirable requirements:

  • Have experience of designing fixtures.  

  • Some IT knowledge and proficiency.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Coventry

Mitutoyo’s MGT (Mitutoyo Gauging Technology) is the UK leader in bespoke solutions to the Metrology market with both UK and Global customers. Due to continued growth we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our design team in MGT, based in the Coventry office. 

From one-off fixtures to fully automated measurement systems, MGT meet the simplest or most complicated measurement challenge. MGT boasts a high profile customer base across the Aerospace, Automotive and Orthopaedic industries but also serve many other sectors. 

 

Responsibilities: 

 

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will focus on the design of Gauges, Fixtures and Systems. You will work alongside our Software and Electrical Engineers and Technicians on a daily basis as projects are taken from the initial concept through to testing and then delivery. This will encompass all activities throughout the design process including: 

  • Understanding and interpreting customer requirements 

  • The invention of novel ideas (concepts) to meet customer requirements 

  • Critical appraisal of yours and others designs within the design team to ensure robustness of design 

  • 3D modelling of concepts 

  • 3D modelling of detailed designs for manufacture 

  • 2D draughting of manufacturing drawings 

  • Support of technicians in the assembly and testing of your designs 

  • Good general mechanical understanding and knowledge 

 

Key requirements: 

  • You'll hold an HND/Degree in a relevant engineering discipline 

  • Have appropriate experience using a 3D CAD package 

  • Have a good knowledge of many different materials and manufacturing processes 

  • An aptitude for problem solving and the ability to develop solutions for complex problems 

  • Experience of industry standard drafting practices and principles 

  • Effective communicator at both a technical and project level to all stakeholders 

 

Desirable requirements:

  • Have experience of designing fixtures  

  • Have experience of designing machinery 

  • Have experience of CE marking
