The opportunity has been taken to provide deeper coverage of the more commonly encountered uses of the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) together with an overview of specialist applications such as aerofoil and gear measurement. An appreciation of ISO10360 has been added to help prospective CMM users interpret manufacturers’ accuracy specifications. A separate chapter is devoted to the ever-expanding range of probing systems.



There is an increasing need for a sound appreciation of product specification principles and this has prompted an extensive revision of the Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) material.
